The Challenge
The studio needed a pre-release cinematic trailer that communicated the scale and emotional tone of their game world before a single frame of gameplay footage was ready. The brief called for fully CG environments, three hero characters, and a climactic VFX sequence — all within a six-week production window with a small internal team that had no capacity to absorb the work.
The Solution
I built a modular environment asset pipeline that allowed rapid scene iteration while maintaining visual consistency across the cinematic. Character rigs were prepared from existing model assets and animated using a blocking-first methodology that kept the director informed at every stage. VFX were designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing engine shaders, ensuring the cinematic looked continuous with in-game visuals while still achieving the heightened quality expected of a pre-rendered sequence.
